Emergency Text Messaging - Emergency.buffalo.edu
Every UB community member should be registered with Emergency Text Messaging - it could be the difference between life and death in a campus emergency. UB’s emergency personnel use the system to immediately text-message warnings or advisories to registered users’ cell phones. Registering is FREE and EASY at emergency.buffalo.edu.
Emergency Communications Network
Emergency Plan
UB’s "All Hazards Emergency Response" coordinates the University’s reaction to such incidents as weather emergencies, fire, utility failure, infectious disease, hazardous material incident, demonstrations, active shooter/hostage incidents, structural collapse, major crimes, terrorist attack, bomb threat (or actual detonation) and more.
Campus Workplace/Resident Safety
Community Policing
University Police are assigned to designated areas of campus to build familiarity with the groups in those areas. UB police officers meet with campus groups such as residence hall and apartment students, faculty, and staff, to address immediate security issues or develop strategies to maintain a safe campus environment.
Environmental Health & Safety
UB’s EHS department will conduct safety inspections, hazard assessments, training and educational programs to ensure resident and worker safety at UB.
- Biosafety. Ensuring safe conduct of biological and biomedical research at UB. To safely use biological material, all researchers must register and receive written approval from the appropriate University oversight committee.
- Chemical Safety. Chemical Hygiene Plan is managed by Environment, Health & Safety, including inspection of fume hoods. EHS will pick up and dispose of campus-generated chemical waste in the most economical and environmental sound manner possible, consistent with current regulatory guidelines.
- Fire Safety/Prevention. EHS can help UB departments with building emergency plans, will train staff on the use of fire extinguishers, and provide guidance in all areas of fire and life safety.
- Radiation Safety. Campus-wide radiation protection program to ensure safe use of radioactive materials and radiation producing equipment at the University at Buffalo.
Safety in Residence Halls & Apartments
UB’s emergency plans and procedures are fully at work in University Residence Halls & Apartments (URHA). The staffs of URHA, along with University Police, University Facilities (EHS) and many other UB offices, have been trained and continually test emergency processes.
